Summer Concert Series
Tuesday evenings at 8:00pm | Riverside Park Amphitheater
Established in 1983, the Yankton Summer Concert Series, sponsored by Yankton Area Arts is held at 8:00pm every Tuesday evening in June, July, and part of August. The free concert series is open air and held in the Riverside Park Amphitheatre. It features an all-volunteer concert band led by guest conductors followed by a pops concert series featuring contracted musicians.
The Yankton Area Summer Band (YASB) is made up of fifty to one hundred area volunteer musicians that include high school and college students as well as adults are invited to perform an hour-long concert held immediately following an hour-long rehearsal. The participating musicians learn alongside amateur and professional musicians who both play and conduct each week. The YASB is managed by local band teacher, Gwen Wenisch who has been playing with the summer band since she was in 8th grade.
The concert series continues with the Fourth of July Concert and the Summer Pops Concert Series. These free concerts feature local and regional professional musicians who are paid and given exposure to a diverse audience.
